Reflecting On Our First Day.

First of all, it was great to be in such a packed room yesterday. It was really inspiring to be surrounded by so many young artists/learners/leaders etc... Despite the fact that it was insanely hot and that we had to push through introductions in addition to an action packed meeting you all remained plucky and enthused - hurrah!

For those of you who didn't get to make it, we played a bunch of games, had a discussion about what "making" versus "taking" a photo means and also came up with some terms to describe parts of an image. We then did group activities with some some big, beautiful books and then took pictures of ourselves with signs that we made. The signs had something written about who we are, how we feel, what we want to show the world and so on. We'll do this project again later in the year as a check-in with ourselves.

Anyways, since I have text and image on my mind, I want to share the work of Wendy Ewald with you. Later in the year one of you will most likely do a research project on her, so I don't want to spill the beans too much but... she is a collaborative artist, who helps get cameras into the hand of folks who might not do photography otherwise. Check out the photos below.
