often has different photo contests that are free and open to all Massachusetts
residents! I know everyone loves pictures of kitties (I mean, really, who
doesn't love kittens?) and this month's contest is all them! If you have a
really great photograph of a cat (or lots of cats!) I encourage you to submit!
The grand prize is a free 8x10 print of your photograph and a $100 gift card to
Hunt's Photo and Video store in Hadley!

Gee whiz, I can't wait to see you all next MONDAY!!!
Wowee, we'll be at WHS, meeting at 2:30.

Here is a little video I wanted to show you. This fabulous group (Daily Tous Les Jours) put together an art project on the streets of Montreal, where they made musical swings! Watch the video to learn more/ start thinking about the whimsical, wonderful things we'll do together this year!

Hey ladies,

I thought you might be interested in the work of photographer Nikki Lee. She's a contemporary Korean American photographer. For her projects she submerges herself into a "subculture" or group of people that she might not normally identify with and changes her identity to become a part of that group. For example, she dresses up as an elderly woman and plays the part so well, that she makes friends in the elderly community, making it her life for the time of her project. Some people could say it's a way of "walking in someone else's shoes". What do you think this says about her identity and identities of groups or communities in general? Do you think it's awesome that she does this or could it be problematic in stereotyping certain groups of people? Does it remind you of Cindy Sherman's work at all? How is it similar or different?

Eadweard Muybridge: Post from Anna

Hey ladies,

Considering we did some stop motion photo work ourselves recently, I figured it would good for you to see the work of the guy who sort of discovered this technique. Eadweard Muybridge used photography to try and answer some questions about the way the human body (and animal bodies) moved. He took a series of photographs of people or animals repeating a certain motion, like walking, dancing, horses running, etc. to see how the body moved scientifically. This was really significant in photography and in science! Do you think you could discover something by taking stop motion photographs? How do they compare to the work we made last week? Can you think of something similar we could do with all the technology we have today?
