Cool, Young, Artist!

Micah Bazant Design "Making Social Justice look irresistable".

Take some time to look through the art and design sections of this website - really relevant and pwoerful stuff being made by a young person!

I've postd some examples of work that I love - there's much more to look at on the site. Maybe this can inspire your LCYA posters?

Something for you to think about is how as a young artist you can make creative work and work that is for another groups project/program. Compare and contrast the contracted work and personal work that Micah has made.

Tomorrow: The Alt Map Begins + We shall Brainstorm!!

Hey Ladies -
I'm eager to see all of you tomorrow. Here's the quick heads up on what we'll be doing:
MAPPING!

We'll start discussing a big project that we'll be beginning this coming week - based on that outdoor adventure we took not so long ago.

Then we will map/brainstorm what you want to cover over the next few months.

In the meantime you might be interested in looking at these photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, he has done considerable amounts of work in the Appalachia's. We'll talk more in depth about the praise and criticism he has gotten as an artists, but first, why don't you all take a look at his photos.

After you take a look at his work, you  might be interesting in taking a peek at this as well.

Another Youth Photography Program!

Hey Ladies -
Thanks for the splendid time at the Umass Gallery on Wednesday, it was a blast to see you having such a fun time surrounded by so much fine aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrtttttttt!
Here is the link for Kim Sooja's website if you want to learn more about her work and see examples beyond what we looked at the other day. http://www.kimsooja.com/

If you'd like to look into more work at the Umass Gallery, here is the link to their homepage. As always, I'm excited to hear about what artwork you're looking at, enjoying and wanting to learn more about!

And on that note, let's start focusing on some other youth organizations that do work similar to what we're doing. ICP (The International Center for Photography) works with a community center in the South Bronx called The Point. They have an amazing black and white analogue program there. Below I've pasted the link to their website as well as some examples of the work that the youth there are making.

What do you think? Should we network with other youth organizations? Do you want to share your work with folks your age in different cities and towns?

See you all on Monday! Please check back Sunday night for an overview of next week!

Post from Crystal

Hey, girls! I’ve been following this girl’s work since I was sixteen. Her name
is Kate Maupin and she lives in Connecticut. She’s a great makeup artist and
takes a lot of self-portraits to show off her makeup artistry. I know some of
you like playing around with makeup, so I thought you may be interested in
seeing her photos.

I personally have always loved her pieces because while they show her makeup
artistry, they also show her personality. When you take self-portraits,
start thinking about what makes the self-portrait so uniquely you. Does
it show a signature style? Does it include an object or a part of you that is
very precious or important? Does it show a certain emotion or have a certain
tone that you really connect with? Self-portraits can easily get boring; how
can you keep it interesting?

Congrats to Annalee Clough, Published Photographer!

Hey Everyone, big news! Annalee's work is published online. She submitted to the Joy of Giving Something Foundation's fall photo contest.

Click here for to see her work on the website.

Click here to see work by other youth.

Please take a moment to look at her series about the impact and presence of cutting in the lives of teenagers.  This is a great example of work that celebrates both fine tuned technical skills and the integration of pertinent social issues.
